Prospect Profile: Kendall Crute

North Cobb Christian junior Kendall Crute is coming off of a season where he averaged 12 points per game and was an All-State and All-Region selection. Recruiting is picking up for the 6’3 guard and we caught up Crute to get an update.

The athletic, slashing wing is playing with the Atlanta Celtics this offseason and currently holds more than a handful of Division I offers. “I right I am hearing the most from Murray State, College of Charlestion, Southern Mississippi, Louisiana Tech, Kennesaw State, Georgia State and UAB,” said Crute.

Crute already has his mind on preparing for the next level and is putting in the work this offseason to be ready. “I’m working on my ball handling and the physical side of the game so I can get stronger and am able to take the bumps you get in a game,” added Crute.

Prospect Profile: Dante Scott

High scoring sophomore Dante Scott is one of the top scorers in the 2015 class. The 6’5 guard was an All-State selection last season and bigger things are on the horizon for the Campbell HS product.

Scott reports offers from George Mason, Appalachian State, Georgia State, Middle Tennessee state, Mississippi State and Kennesaw State. Playing with Atlanta Xpress this AAU season, Scott has also earned interest from Georgia, Georgia Tech, Virginia, Memphis, UCF, Florida State, Florida, Kansas State and Yale.

A true student-athlete, Scott is a member of the rigorous IB program at Campbell and academics will play a role in his college decision. “Academics and college environment along with playing and coaching styles will be important in my decision,” said Scott.

Scott is a physically strong versatile scorer who can put the ball in the basket from inside or outside. The sophomore is working hard to take his game to the next level and is concentrating this offseason on improving his quickness off the dribble.

Prospect Profile: Shawn O’Connell

Milton junior Shawn O’Connell is coming off of a season where he averaged over 13 points per game and was a first team All-Region selection. We had a chance to talk with the 6’7 versatile forward about his recruitment and his offseason plans.

“I am being recruited by Stanford, William & Mary, Elon, Appalachian State, Yale, Harvard, Stetson, UAB, Jacksonsonville, Georgia, Boston University, Gardner Webb and others,” said O’Connell who is traveling the AAU circuit with the Atlanta Celtics. The junior has a unique combination of size, skill, athleticism and basketball IQ which should serve him well at the college level.

“I’m working on my defense and ball handling,” added the Milton product who is looking for a program with strong academics and a location where he feels comfortable.

Celestine to Tennessee State

The Tennessee State Tigers have added 6’7 forward Ugo Celestine from Greenforest Christian to their 2013-14 recruiting class. Celestine helped GCA win the Class A Private division state championship this season.

The senior averaged 12 points and 6 rebounds per game earning a spot on the AJC’s All-Metro Team.

Blakely Chooses Charlotte

Apalachee senior Cameron Blakely has signed a National Letter of Intent with Charlotte and Head Coach Alan Major. Blakely was a first team All-Northeast Georgia selection after averaging 16.9 and 9.3 rebounds per game.

“The coaching staff is very excited about welcoming Cameron to the 49ers family,” Major said. “Cameron left his mark on Apalachee High School after leading them to the state playoffs for the first time in four years. He brings a unique combination of size and skill to our team.”

Doyle Picks the Eagles

Buford’s Kyle Doyle became new Head Coach Mark Byington’s first high school signee when the 6’6 forward signed with the Eagles. ”I am very excited to have Kyle join our program,” Byington said in a statement. “We expect him to make a major impact with our team next year. Kyle can play both forward spots and has a lot of qualities that will benefit our team. He is tough, skilled, intelligent, and plays very hard.”

Davenport Selects UNF

Eagles Landing forward Chris Davenport signed with North Florida on Tuesday becoming the sixth member of Head Coach Matt Driscoll’s 2013-14 recruiting class.

“Chris brings a lot of versatility and toughness to our roster,” said Driscoll. “In addition, having spent the year recruiting him his character and maturity are through the roof. His offensive skill set and high motor, coupled with a seven-plus foot wingspan makes him a dominating rebounder and defender.”

Davenport averaged 12.3 points, 9.2 rebounds, 3.1 assists and 2.4 blocks per game while helping lead Eagles Landing to a 23-4 record and the Class AAAA State Championship.

Goodwin to UCF

Norcross senior Brandon Goodwin, the state’s AAAAAA Player of the Year, gave a commitment to Central Florida on Monday. The high scoring lead guard led the Blue Devils to a state championship this season and chose the Knights over Auburn, Ole Miss, Western Kentucky and Houston.

Georgia State Adds PG

It has been a good month for Eagles Landing guard Isaiah Dennis. It began with a Class AAAA state championship and has ended with a commitment to Georgia State following a visit to the downtown Atlanta campus this weekend.

Dennis was an all-region selection after averaging 16 points, four assists and three steals per game last season.

Sharp Shooting Senior to Oklahoma

One of the top available prospects in Georgia’s 2013 class is off the board after Westside’s Frank Booker announced his commitment to Oklahoma. The 6’4 shooting guard chose the Sooners over Tennessee, Texas A&M and LaSalle.
